"Xcel Energy's residential customers will see a 38 percent increase in their electricity bills during the third quarter compared with the same period a year ago..." ~The Denver Post
"ExxonMobil predicts in their energy report at the end of last year that global energy demand will grow by 60 percent between now and 2030." ~Bob Inglis (U.S. Congressman)
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has released a ground-breaking report concluding that using wind power to generate 20 percent of the nation's electricity is achievable -- without any new technological breakthroughs.
"I have no doubt that we will be successful in harnessing the sun’s energy… If sunbeams were weapons of war, we would have had solar energy centuries ago."
~ George Porter, an English chemist (1973)
"It's time for America to change the way we think about wind power," said Bob Lukefahr of BP North America. Both BP and rival Shell are major players in the wind energy industry.
Legendary oil man T Boone Pickens placed a $2 Billion order for wind turbines from GE.
"Renewable energy is proven technology, the price is dropping, the rest of the world is going that way, that's where our investment should be going as well."
~Bob Brown (Politician and Environmentalist)
"First, there is the power of the Wind, constantly exerted over the globe… Here is an almost incalculable power at our disposal, yet how trifling the use we make of it."
~ Henry David Thoreau, an American naturalist and author (1834).
"We need to push ourselves to make as many reductions as possible in our own energy use first.. and that takes time. But we must do this quickly.. the climate will not wait for us."
~Rupert Murdoch
"Natural-gas bills for small businesses are projected to surge 58 percent…"
~The Denver Post
"Some of our businesses use more energy than others, but our strategy everywhere is the same. First, reduce our use of energy as much as possible. Then, switch to renewable sources of power where it makes economic sense. And, over time, as a last resort, offset the emissions we can't avoid."
~Rupert Murdoch
"The use of solar energy has not been opened up because the oil industry does not own the sun."
~Ralph Nader
"We want a national emissions trading scheme, the Government does not and has rejected one for years. We want to boost the mandatory renewable energies target, the Government has failed to do that. We want a national demand side management strategy for the country to reduce electricity consumption and the Government, up until now, has done very little on that score."
~Kevin Rudd
"If we get the right kind of energy, there are endless amounts. I think we should be developing every kind of alternative fuel that is available to us. That includes hydrogen to soybeans, from solar to wind. Whatever we can find that is going to help us clean up the environment we should be working really hard on developing.
~Morgan Freeman
"Because we are now running out of gas and oil, we must prepare quickly for a third change, to strict conservation and to the use of coal and permanent renewable energy sources, like solar power."
~Jimmy Carter, televised speech, Apr. 18, 1977
"Clearly, we need more incentives to quickly increase the use of wind and solar power; they will cut costs, increase our energy independence and our national security and reduce the consequences of global warming."
~Hillary Rodham Clinton, speech at Cleantech Venture Forum VIII, Oct. 25, 2005
"To truly transform our economy, protect our security, and save our planet from the ravages of climate change, we need to ultimately make clean, renewable energy the profitable kind of energy."
~Barack Obama, Address to Joint Session of Congress, Feb. 24, 2009
Obama Calls for Doubling Renewable Energy in Three Years
"In the process, we will put Americans to work in new jobs that pay well and can't be outsourced – jobs building solar panels and wind turbines; constructing fuel-efficient cars and buildings; and developing the new energy technologies that will lead to even more jobs, more savings, and a cleaner, safer planet in the bargain," Obama said in January in a speech at George Mason University.
"Of all the forces of nature, I should think the wind contains the largest amount of motive power—that is, power to move things. Take any given space of the earth's surface— for instance, Illinois; and all the power exerted by all the men, and beasts, and running-water, and steam, over and upon it, shall not equal the one hundredth part of what is exerted by the blowing of the wind over and upon the same space. And yet it has not, so far in the world's history, become proportionably valuable as a motive power. It is applied extensively, and advantageously, to sail-vessels in navigation. Add to this a few windmills, and pumps, and you have about all. ... As yet, the wind is an untamed, and unharnessed force; and quite possibly one of the greatest discoveries hereafter to be made, will be the taming, and harnessing of it."
~Abraham Lincoln
