Solar Air-Wall restoration and maintenance now offered by D & R Energy Services.
Complete restoration of early Air-Walls now available to help you save energy.
The early 80's saw a boom in Renewable energy ideas. These ideas were great and many state and local governments offered incentives for people to install these ideas on their homes and businesses. Many companies jumped on the bandwagon and started manufacturing and installing these products but have since gone out of business or just don't offer service to their original customers.
Robert Craig of D & R Energy Services states, "In talking with our clients we saw a need to offer complete restoration services for the older 1980's Air-Walls. Many of these units are still working but in need of major repair and very few companies offer service for them." Robert goes on to say, "A broken pane of glass or rotted wood can cause an air leak that drives down the unit's efficiency and leaves your home open to cold air entry."
Solar Air-Walls are a very simple product that heats your home by using the sun. Air is pulled from the inside of your house by a fan and pushed into the Air-Wall. As the air heats it rises and exits out into your room with the help of the same fan system. The outside of the system is usually many two foot square panes of glass that capture the suns heat and can heat air to over 100 degrees, making your furnace work less and use less fuel.
"Most Air-Wall systems were installed in the early to mid 80's and time is now taking its toll. Technology has changed a lot in 25 plus years too and we can rebuild these units with better materials so they will work for many more years to come." states Melissa Bray, Senior Consultant with D & R Energy.
If you have an Air-Wall or any other Renewable Energy system that is in need of repair, or you are just looking for more information about Sustainable Energy, contact D & R Energy Services and they can help you get your system running in top shape again and answer any questions you may have. Solar - Start to Finish by Robert Craig
Thinking about Solar:
We have been asked on occasion just how everything works with a typical solar install. There is so much to do, how are we going to get it all done? Yes there is a lot to do with installing a solar system on your home or business, but one nice thing is your solar contractor does most of the work for you.
Contacting an Installer/Contractor:
You have been hearing so many good things about going with a solar system. How much money you can save and how you can help save our precious natural resources for our future generations. Where do you turn to find answers? First thing to do is find a reputable solar installer. The best way to find a solar installer/contractor is the internet. Try and find at least two companies to come out and visit with you. When choosing which installer to talk with, look at how many years they have been in Renewable Energy and ask them how many installs they have completed and what types.
Site Assessment:
The first thing that any installer needs is one year’s worth of electricity bills so they can determine what size system is right for you. They will also need to look at your roof to make sure there is room there to install enough panels. Does the roof face south or what are the conditions of your roof? If there is not enough room then they should be able to give you options as to what would be the size that would fit or if a ground mounted system would work. The installer will also need to look at the possibility of shading issues that could affect the output of your system. Trees, a chimney or even other roof areas will cause shading.
Incentive Applications
Also when the contractor is at your home or business they should explain any and all incentives and tax credits that are available to you. They should also offer to help you fill out any applications that there may be with any incentive based rebate. If your contractor does not offer this information to you, you may want to contact another company for your Renewable Energy system. The contractor should also explain about the Net Metering Law and how it works for you.
Proposal
Contractors should provide you with a formal proposal as to what the cost of the system will be and what equipment they plan to install. This proposal should also include any incentives and tax credits that are available.
Design & Engineering
The contractor should provide you with design as to where your system will be placed on your roof, or ground if there is not enough room there. This should be supplied to you when they submit the proposal to you.
Contract
Once you have chosen a contractor then they will most likely submit a contract for you to sign. Please read this carefully and if you have questions or don’t understand something, then ask the contractor to explain. Understanding the contract could possibly save you money and pain in the long run.
Ordering of Equipment
After the contract is signed your equipment will be ordered. A shipping date will be established and an install date will be scheduled with you. Most work will take place outside your home or business. There will need to be access to your breaker panel so someone will need to be available for the electrician to hang the inverter and tie into your panel.
Equipment Arrival
Equipment will normally arrive to the warehouse or job site in about 7 to 10 business days after order is placed. Inspection is done to ensure that all equipment has been received and in install condition. Installation usually begins a few days after.
Permits
The contractor usually obtains permits and bills for these separately as each municipality is different in pricing.
Day of Install
The day has arrived and the install crew is busy on your roof putting in racking (for the panels to bolt to) and installing panels. Depending on the size of the system, install can take anywhere from two days to a week. Wiring is connected to the panels and dropped for the electrician to begin tie in.
Final Paperwork
After the install is complete and inspections are done, final paperwork is completed for any incentives and tax credits there may be. The contractor should have this paperwork all ready for you to sign and send in.
Your System
You now have your Renewable Energy system. Your system will give you many, many years of trouble free service and you can now watch your electric bill shrink.

Did you know? Site analysis and site surveys at no cost.
D & R Energy Services, Inc. announced today that they are trying to combat the poor economy of Michigan.
D & R Energy announced today that they will continue to offer their site analysis and site surveys at no cost. Robert Craig, Senior Engineer of D & R Energy says, “In this poor economic state that Michigan is in we wanted to continue offering our customers another way to save money. By not charging our customers for these services we are saving them between $300.00 and $350.00 that other companies charge for coming out to your home or business”.
Melissa Bray, Senior Consultant for D & R Energy states, “A site analysis and site survey help us to determine what would be the best Renewable Energy option for you. Most companies charge you weather you purchase a system or not”.
Renewable Energy costs have dropped over the past few months but will again rise in the coming months. There are incentives and rebates to help offset the cost associated with purchasing a Renewable Energy system for your home or business.

Solar Thermal Article
Solar Thermal is the heating of air or water using the energy of the sun. Imagine a cold crisp winter day and inside your home its toasty warm. You have not heard the furnace, or boiler, run. The gas bill came in the mail a few days ago and you smile to yourself knowing that this time last year you were paying double or maybe triple this amount. Now it’s time for a shower and get dressed for the day, again you smile knowing that your hot water is not going to take money out of your pocket. Even doing the laundry and washing dishes won’t make a dent in your wallet. Does this sound too good to be true? Well it’s not thanks to Solar Energy.
Written by Robert Craig, Senior Engineer for D & R Energy Services.
Up on your roof is a series of solar collectors that capture the heat from the sun and convert it to heating your hot water. A set of coils in your hot water tank are connected to these collectors and a heat conducting food grade glycol circulates, transferring this heat energy. If you have radiant floor heat and a boiler system then a set of coils would be connected to another holding tank that is connected to your boiler. This tank preheats the water for your boiler so it doesn’t have to work as hard burning gas to heat the house.
In as little as two days a thermal system can be installed on your home and you could start saving money. A team of two installers and a Mater Plumber are all that is needed. These highly trained personal work with your busy schedule so there is minimal amount of time needed to disrupt your life.
What does this all mean to you? A smaller gas bill each and every month for the next 25 plus years. With the money you save on your gas bill, you could pay off a Solar Thermal system in as little as five to six years (without incentives or tax credits). Add on these credits and incentives and your return on your investment drops even quicker.

Solar and you article
Solar and you
Have you ever wondered how solar generated electricity could benefit you? Here are a few things to help you understand.
Did you know you could add value to your home even in these tough economic times? Imagine adding more money to your pocket if you decide to sell. Even Realtors agree that Solar PV (Photovoltaic) adds to the value and makes it easier to market and sell your home.
Many people ask how much money a solar system will cost. There is no standard answer to this question; it's like buying a new car. What options would you like to have? You can buy a "striped down" model or go all out. All depends on how much money you would like to spend on the options you want.
Solar PV systems can be designed to the amount of electricity you want to offset each month. If you would like to see a 50% offset then your monthly bill would be approximately half of what you’re paying. Most consumers want to offset by 100% if possible and this can be done with no problem if you have enough space to install panels. Your installer can determine this for you very easily.
Incentives and credits play a big role in the cost of a solar system. The current Federal Tax Credit (30%) could save you $3,000.00 or much more off your system (cost of materials and installation). This credit is taken on your income taxes at the end of the year. If your tax burden is not enough to take this whole credit at once, it can roll over to the next year or out to as long as 2016.
Many utility's and states offer additional incentives and rebates to further reduce the cost of your system. Many times when you add up all credits, incentives and rebates the system cost is zero. That's right, zero. See your solar installer for all the details.
Net metering is another way to reduce the amount of money you pay each month to your local utility. Most states have adopted a Net Metering Law. This is where your electric utility installs a new digital meter on your home or business that can count backwards. Yes, backwards. As you produce power from your solar system it is run through this meter. During the day as you make electricity, any excess that you don’t use is sent up onto the grid. This power then makes the meter count backwards so that you build credits.
At night when you can’t produce electricity and have to take it off the grid, you use some of the credits you built up during the day. One nice thing is, you don’t normally use as much power during the night time because you sleep for most of it. Then everything starts all over again in the morning, 365 days a year.
During the summer months you will build up more credits and these credits roll over month to month and year to year. Yes it is true that you may not produce as much energy during the winter months because of the amount of day light time available. On the other hand, in the Northern areas of the country that have snow, you can produce more power in one crisp clear winter day then on a cloudless summer day in July.
Many people see adding solar to their home as having strangers running in and out all day for weeks on end. That is not the case with solar. Most residential installs only take 3 days to complete and only require 1 person in your home. All other personal are outside your home on the roof or working in your yard, in the case of a ground mount system. A solar PV install is much cleaner on your home then standard renovations.
If you would like more information about solar PV or an analysis to see how much you can offset your electrical usage, contact your local Solar Installer and see what solar can do for you.
